Jayanta Malla Baruah is an Indian Politician from the state of Assam. He joined the BJP in 2015 defecting from Congress. He is a one term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Baruah represented the Nalbari (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and won the seat on an Indian National Congress ticket, beating the sitting Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly Alaka Sarma from the Asom Gana Parishad by about 9000 votes. He was elected to the 13th assembly on 13th May 2011.
Baruah was from the Indian National Congress but he left the Congress party as the party got engaged in corrupt and family oriented practices. He switched party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party as he was impressed by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the ideology of the BJP. Baruah was later denied a ticket to fight the Assam Legislative Assembly election, 2016. The son of a well-known writer Kailash Malla Baruah, and a political science graduate, Jayanta Malla Baruah himself likes to write poems, whenever he gets time from his busy schedule.
